The Hawthorne Hotel is a North of Boston landmark property located on the Common in Salem, Massachusetts. We are a member of Historic Hotels of America, a prestigious grouping of over 200 historic properties under the umbrella of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
This hotel is highly successful when measured by many criteria. A search on the Internet will show that the Hawthorne Hotel is listed in the top 2000 hotels of the world, as detailed by Travel + Leisure Magazine. It is considered as one of eight properties listed for the Boston and North Shore area, and is in very elite company.
We were selected by the readers of the Community Newspapers of Lynn, Lynnfield, Marblehead, Nahant, Peabody, Salem and Swampscott as the "Gold" winner in the Readers Choice Awards.
The Boston based television show, the Phantom Gourmet, selected the Hawthorne as a "Hidden Jewel" in its review of small hotels and inns throughout the region.
The majority of our management team have both a bonus and incentive plan, and these bonus and incentive amounts have been paid out regularly for the past several years.
Boston Magazine, in a review of Salem in May of 1999, said about the Hawthorne Hotel, "It sits like a miniature Ritz Carlton on the edge of the town common."
In addition to the Hotel, the Hawthorne does extensive off-premise catering.
The Hawthorne Hotel is an active member of the local and statewide hotel community. In 2000 the Hotel again won the prestigious Community Service 'Stars of the Industry' award from the Massachusetts Lodging Association for an event held in conjunction with its 75th anniversary. In 2002 (for 2001) one of our service staff members was selected as Employee of the Year for the small hotels category, for the entire state of Massachusetts. In 2005 (for 2004) one of our managers was selected as manager of the year for a small property in the Stars of the Industry awards.
Our GM was named Outstanding General Manager of the Year for a Small Property in 2006 for 2005, and the property one a national AH&LA award for guest relations in 2007.
The Hotel holds memberships in the Peabody Essex Museum, the House of the Seven Gables, Salem Chamber of Commerce, North Shore Chamber of Commerce, Salem State College Speakers Series, Destination Salem and Historic Salem Inc.
Salem Massachusetts is located just 15 miles from the center of Boston, on the coast north of Boston. It is a unique, historic seaside community with excellent public transportation to Boston.
Why People Like to Work for Us
Our employees are all invited to participate, at our expense, in the AH&LA training program called CourseLine. This is a way to get top-notch hotel-specific training, leading to certificates of achievement in a variety of areas.
The hotel has WI-FI throughout, available on a complimentary basis to all guests of the hotel.
The hotel is one of the first in the nation to have its own BLOG. To see it, go to our website, www.HawthorneHotel.com, and click on the link to our daily diary on the homepage.
The Hawthorne Hotel also Tweets and has a Facebook page. We may be historic, but we are not moldy-oldie in how we operate the hotel.
