 Scope of this Position

  • WILD DUNES RESORT
  • Wild Dunes Resort is located within the 1200 acre, oceanfront gated, Wild Dunes Community.
  • The resort amenities include the AAA Four Diamond Boardwalk Inn, The Village at Wild Dunes®, villas and homes under management; two championship golf courses designed by Tom Fazio; 17 tennis courts; 11,000 square feet of indoor function space; fitness center with spa services; 2.5 miles of beach and multiple food and beverage outlets.

  • DIRECT REPORTS:
  • Assistant Controller, Director of Purchasing, IT Director, Telecom Manager
  • DUTIES:
  • Strategic and day to day business partner to Wild Dunes Resort Managing Director (“MD”) and Area Director of Finance;
  • Business partner and mentor to all Wild Dunes Resort Operational Executives;
  • Maximize Wild Dunes Resort profitability and cash flow:
  • Ongoing review and analysis of all Wild Dunes Resort activities, organization, revenue and expenditures;
  • Cash management;
  • Foster and pursue strategic alignment and cooperation between Wild Dunes Resort and its stakeholders, as well as between the operational and support divisions within Wild Dunes Resort;
  • Proactive entrepreneurial change agent within Wild Dunes Resort, constantly seeking opportunities to improve and streamline existing and new operations;
  • Ensure that the highest ethical standards are maintained within Wild Dunes Resort in all of its dealings, in alignment with the DH&R guiding principles;
  • Oversee and manage all Wild Dunes Resort accounting functions;
  • All Wild Dunes Resort financial reporting functions, daily, monthly and annually;
  • Wild Dunes Resort Budgeting and Forecasting;
  • Preparation of Annual Financial Statements for Audit and Tax returns;
  • Accounting for Village HOAs;
  • Oversight of Wild Dunes Resort purchasing and warehouse functions;
  • Oversight of Wild Dunes Resort IT and Telecom functions
  • DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Close liaison with Sales and Revenue Management departments to ensure a full understanding and provide financial input on future business, rates and projections;
  • Review monthly financial statements in detail with Operating department heads, providing constructive criticism, financial training and practical assistance where required;
  • Assist Operating department heads with Inventory management where required and monitor inventory levels to match business activity;
  • Capital Expenditures:
  • Drive the Capital Expenditure plan with the Managing Director in concert with the Director of Facilities Management and Operating department heads to ensure best use of limited cash resources
  • Approve, track and ensure proper recording of all capital transactions, including improvement projects
  • Review and approve all Contracts before they are signed, and participate in all material Contract negotiations, ensuring that DH&R standards are followed;
  • Ensure that all reporting to DH&R is timely and accurate, including:
  • Daily revenue report
  • Daily Labor Report
  • Monthly Forecast update and reports
  • Monthly financial results and reports
  • Annual Budget
  • Cash management:
  • All cash movements tracked on a daily basis
  • Bank reconciliations maintained daily
  • Funding to subsidiaries is provided as needed
  • Weekly remittances to Lender escrow account
  • Monthly reporting to Lender
  • Review of month end reconciliations
  • Cash flow forecasting support to Director of Finance
  • Forecasts and Budgets:
  • Initiate and drive the annual Budget process
  • Work with Operating department heads in creating their budgets
  • Review Budget with MD and DOF, and adjust as required
  • Present Budget to DH&R and adjust as required
  • Initiate and drive the monthly Forecast process
  • Work with Operating department heads in updating their forecasts
  • Review Forecast with MD and DOF, and adjust as required
  • Report Forecast to DH&R
  • Load day by day revenue and labor for the following month for Budget and Forecast
  • Oversight of Accounting in conjunction with Assistant Controller:
  • Ensure accurate and complete daily capture and recording of Wild Dunes Resort revenues
  • Ensure accurate and complete daily capture and recording of all cash, credit card and credit transactions with customers
  • Review, approval and proper recording of all Purchase Orders issued to suppliers
  • Ensuring proper checking and approval of all supplier invoices, and accurate recording in accounts payable
  • Ensure monthly review and reconciliation of all supplier statements to the payables ledger
  • Monitor timely payment of suppliers using full credit terms
  • Ensure prompt billing of all customers with established credit
  • Ensure prompt collection of all receivables
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly accounting for property management owner revenues and receivables
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly and annual accounting for Village HOAs
  • Monthly credit meetings with A/R and applicable operating departments
  • Ensure prompt banking of all cash and check collections
  • Reconciliation and adjustment as required of all balance sheet accounts each month
  • Oversight of payroll manager running three company payrolls twice per month
  • Monitoring of benefit functions carried out by HR
  • Ongoing training and cross training
  • Purchasing:
  • High level oversight and support of the purchasing and warehouse functions
  • Ensure that Operating departments are given the best level of service that is economically possible
  • Management of inventory levels in line with business activity
  • F&B menu costing and potential tracking
  • Monitoring of old, slow moving and stale inventories
  • Maximizing Avendra usage where to Wild Dunes Resort’s advantage
  • Ensuring proper ordering, receiving and safekeeping controls and procedures
  • Liaison with F&B operational management to maximize profitability
  • Information Technology and Telecom:
  • High level oversight and support of IT and Telecom functions
  • Review and monitor new initiatives
  • Liaise with DH&R on proposed new systems and upgrades
  • Support capital needs
  • Ensure that Operating departments are given the best level of support that is economically possible
  • Ensure prompt billing of Resort customers and Telecom customers for Telecom services
  • Support liaison with major vendors
  • Assist with new or renewal of contracts
  • COMPENSATION
  • Wild Dunes Resorts and Destination Hotels & Resorts are committed to attracting the best-qualified Resort Controller and are willing to offer a compensation arrangement commensurate with this outstanding opportunity.
  • The package will be tailored for the final candidate and includes an excellent base salary plus incentive cash compensation, a full package of company-paid benefits, and relocation as appropriate.

 Job Requirements

  • Must be a citizen of this country or possess a valid work permit.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • The Resort Controller must have a minimum of 10 years of finance experience in the hospitality and real estate industry.
  • He/She must have a proven track record of success developing strong and innovative Finance organizations in a fast-paced resort environment.
  • Experience in resort development and homeowner associations is ideal.
  • Experience in large resort is required and experience with complex capital and debt structures is ideal.
  • An undergraduate degree in accounting is required; an MBA and/or CPA are preferred.
  • The Resort Controller must be an effective leader, an extremely well organized, take-charge professional who makes things happen, and who has a strong orientation to quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • The individual must have seasoned business savvy and be value-added, constantly maintaining a "big picture" perspective relative to long-term objectives as well as current Resort operations, performance, profitability and goal achievement.
  • At the same time, the Resort Controller must be detail-oriented; willing to roll up his/her sleeves and is hands-on whenever necessary.
  • He or she must have an analytical mind sufficient to assess business performance and opportunities, as well as to evaluate problems and develop solutions.
  • The Resort Controller must be a polished and dynamic team player, an open, willing communicator who is not uncomfortable or shy in dealing directly with challenging issues.
  • Effective communication is a key ingredient to success in this position.
  • The Resort Controller must also be professional and ethical, demonstrating personal integrity, loyalty, tact, sound judgment, openness and diligence. Specific additional qualifications include:

  • Previous exposure to Golf, Membership, Property Management and HOA operations and accounting
  • BA or BS in Finance and/or Accounting
  • CPA a plus
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Previous Oracle and Springer Miller experience a plus
