  • Those who frequent Stowe treasure its ability to welcome the world, while still remaining the quintessential small New England town and the creation of Stowe Mountain Lodge will reaffirm the mountain’s reputation as a world-class resort.
  • The 139-room luxury lodge is establishing a new alpine aesthetic for Stowe; one that celebrates rustic Vermont-Alpine architecture, the artisan traditions of New England and the tranquility of the area.
  • The lodge will feature stunning, panoramic mountain views, an ambiance of rustic elegance, and truly intimate and gracious service unmatched by any other resort in New England.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 1. Developing and implementing strategies for the Catering Department that support the achievement of the Resort’s goals.
  • 2. Managing the operation of the catering events. Examples of these events would be Social Banquets, Holiday Parties, Reunions, Fundraisers, Birthday Parties, Anniversary Parties, Day Meetings and Weddings.
  • 3. Solicits new and existing catering accounts to exceed revenue goals through telephone solicitation, outside calls, site inspections, and written communication.
  • 4. Participates in food and beverage presentations, sales presentations, trade shows, property site inspections and customer meetings.
  • 5. Responds to all incoming leads for catering business.
  • 6. Completes and updates the Funnel Report identifying account activity and productivity on a weekly basis.
  • 7. Maintains Delphi system updated to preserve communication with the client and the property.
  • 8. Acts as a property liaison between the catering account base and the operations departments of the resort as necessary.
  • 9. Participates in daily business review meeting, sales meetings and management meetings as deemed necessary by the Director of Catering and the Director of Sales and Marketing.
  • 10. Utilizes all existing DH&R resources for the prospecting of new group business. This includes creating relationships with other DH&R property’s sales departments to maximize all lead sources for the property. Receive and send leads accordingly.
  • 11. Represents Stowe Mountain Lodge at local and industry associations to maximize exposure for the hotel.
  • 12. Develops detailed proposals, contracts and correspondence and tailors them to the specific programs and their negotiated terms while maintaining profitability goals of the resort.
  • 13. Conducts site inspections and entertains potential clients as appropriate.
  • 14. Maintains a filing system in the sales department that incorporates all communication with the client and the property. This system should includes signed contracts. Maintains a daily log of important information to share with the department.
  • 15. Assists planning and coordinating group arrivals and departures by working closely with the Front Desk, Catering, Housekeeping and other departments.
  • 16. Communicates with all departments regarding group VIP’s, and/or any special needs.
  • 17. Maintains an up to date working knowledge of all resort amenities as well as any special events.
  • 18. Maximizes revenue and cash flow by promoting resort services, special hotel programs, and upgrades when appropriate.
  • 19. Interacts with resort staff in a professional manner, assisting other departments with necessary information.
  • 20. Is knowledgeable of all emergency procedures and Stowe Mountain Lodge policies.
  • 21. Answers the telephone in a professional manner and assist guests with any questions, directions to the property, etc.
  • 22. Creates cost saving controls, ensures economical and safe use of supplies and equipment.
  • 23. Upholds all safety standards of Stowe Mountain Lodge and Destination Hotels and Resorts.
  • 24. Is able to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • 25. Is a team player and interacts with all guests and fellow Associates in a positive and friendly manner.

 Job Requirements

  • Must be a citizen of this country or possess a valid work permit.
  • QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, & WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years hotel catering, event planning, sales experience.
  • Experience in high volume establishments.
  • Food and wine service knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency (basic computer applications).
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Strong organizational and time management discipline.
  • Understanding of hospitality operating systems.
  • Solid judgment and ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Operate effectively in stressful situations.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Flexible schedule and ability to adapt to changing guest needs.

Now, with the advent of Stowe Mountain Lodge, this unique New England town will reaffirm its place as a renowned destination for discerning world travelers.

For over a century Stowe has attracted the world’s most discerning travelers, who have cherished the beauty of the area’s covered bridges, sparkling lakes, rambling woodlands and majestic peaks. When it opens in fall 2007, Stowe Mountain Lodge will set a new standard of luxury and aesthetics for the East Coast’s most magnificent resort. Built in the new “Vermont-Alpine” style, Stowe Mountain Lodge will offer a truly luxurious setting, while still paying respect to the Vermont traditions of utilizing local artisan products and embracing the tranquility of nature.

The six-story, 139-room lodge draws on the architectural tradition of turn-of-the-century summer camps created by the great families of New England. The lodge’s exterior features a picturesque façade of woven timber and shingles that draw upon the natural harmony found in nature, as well as stone veneer created from local quarries, and expansive glass to bring the beauty of the lodge’s outdoor surroundings to the indoors.

The interior design will further emphasize the fresh and contemporary take on natural beauty, enabling guests to experience Vermont through a mélange of old and new, rustic and romantic. Interchanging natural Vermont woods and stones, birch bark columns and detailing will provide a simplistic backdrop to lively, contemporary folk art pieces. The color palette of the local seasons – vibrant reds, deep oranges, warm yellows and soothing greens – in varying patterns and textures will be found in the upholstery of inviting furnishings.

Each room has been custom-designed as a respite from the hustle and bustle of every day life, with warm tones, plush furnishings and soothing amenities. All rooms will be framed by oversized windows and outdoor balconies, allowing guests to take full advantage of the remarkable mountain landscape of Mt. Mansfield and Spruce Peak.
